Design Session by NEAT

A focused session that establishes a clear foundation for further decisions.

Meeting & Framework

The process begins with what matters most — a shared session (in person or online), where the project is viewed as a whole.

Key questions are opened around the space, its use, and its intention — without pressure to resolve details immediately.

  • context of the place and how it is used

  • what is essential and what can wait

  • where the project needs to slow down and where it is ready to move forward

Space, Logic, Flow

Work focuses on layout, proportion, and the natural movement through the space.

Relationships between different parts of the interior are considered — how they connect in time and in use.

  • spatial layout and flow

  • proportion and scale

  • functional relationships between rooms or zones

Atmosphere & Material Direction

Atmosphere is not decoration, but the result of the right decisions.

Materials, colour, and light are explored — not as a final design, but as direction.

  • material and colour concept

  • work with light and spatial mood

  • relationship between architecture and furnishings

Selections & Orientation

The process moves into more concrete elements — furniture, lighting, and selected pieces.

  • a clearer picture of the project direction

  • validation of key decisions

  • prioritisation of next steps

The session also works with what already exists — furniture, favourite pieces, architectural elements, or materials worth keeping.

Outputs of the Design Session

The outcome is a concise working summary that supports further decision-making.

Depending on scope, it may include:

  • a clearly defined concept and spatial intention
    (atmosphere, character, key principles)

  • material and colour direction

  • 2D layout adjustments to test spatial logic and flow

  • indicative selection of furniture, lighting, and elements

  • recommendations on what to keep, adapt, or refine
(with regard to continuity, budget, and longevity)

  • clearly defined next steps

This is not final documentation, but a solid conceptual base that allows decisions to be made with clarity and ease.

Next step

The Design Session is a flexible format that adapts to the scope and needs of the project.

It represents an architectural–design minimum — a fast, effective, and considered way to set direction, without the need for full-scope collaboration or long-term commitment.

It allows decisions to be made with confidence, while maintaining quality and continuity.

If your project needs clear direction, the Design Session is the right place to start.
